The Dawn of Gediminas’ City. The Oldest Preserved Wooden Building in Vilnius and its Most Unique Artefacts

  • Year of release:2023
  • Price:5.00 €

„The Vilnius Castle Hill, along with the Lower Castle with the rulers’ residence at its foot at the confluence of the Neris and Vilnia rivers, is one of the most valuable historic and archaeological complexes in Lithuania. The special geological constitution of this location and the high groundwater level have meant that particularly rare, organic artefacts, otherwise sensitive to the passage of time, have been preserved quite well, making this territory a true treasure trove of artefacts made from organic materials. Vilnius traces its origins to this very place, in the Vilnius Castles territory, its history as the centre of the Lithuanian state, its eternal capital, whose beginnings are evidenced by unique archaeological artefacts that have survived into our days.“

Returned. The Lost International Treaties of the Republic of Lithuania, 1918–1940

  • Year of release:2023
The exhibition "Returned. The Lost International Treaties of the Republic of Lithuania, 1918–1940" invited visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the rescue, preservation and subsequent search for international treaties that testify to the recognition of the Lithuanian state, as well as to see these treaties that were long thought to be lost. The international treaties of the Republic of Lithuania, taken from Kaunas, the provisional capital of Lithuania, in 1939, returned in 2021 to Vilnius, the eternal capital of Lithuania, for which so much was fought for, and were exhibited in the restored Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. It is a symbolic thread linking the statehood of modern and historic Lithuania and underlining the centuries-old traditions of this statehood.

Secrets of the Vilnia riverside

  • Year of release:2023
  • Price:4.00 €
This is a historical detective story that introduces young readers to the history of the oldest surviving wooden building in Vilnius. The book is aimed at children aged 5-8 who like stories about people who lived long ago and want to learn about their everyday life. The story will take young readers back to the time when the children of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas played on the banks of the Vilnia, to the distant past, when the brick towers of Vilnius castles had not yet been erected, and people lived in small wooden houses on the banks of the Vilnia. The story is a work of writers' imagination, but it mentions many historical figures and facts. The little detectives will have to find out what is real and what is fictional, and the historical artefacts found by archaeologists in the book will help them understand who and how these objects speak.
