This collection of scientific articles is based on the proceedings of the international conference "Lithuania-Italy: Centuries of Relations", held in 2014 at the National Museum - Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The publication summarises the close and diverse historical links between Italy, as the political centre of Renaissance and Baroque Europe and the cradle of cultural and artistic traditions, and Lithuania, which was founded at the edge of the Latin and Byzantine civilisations.

The Opera „Everardo II, Re di Lituania“

In 1782, on the occasion of the birthday of Peter III, the spouse of Queen Mary I of Portugal, the opera "Everard II - King of Lithuania" by the famous Portuguese composer of that time, João de Souza Carvalho, was performed at the Royal Palace of Kelusso. More than 200 years later, the score of this Lithuanian-themed opera was found in the archives of the Royal Palace in Madrid by the Lithuanian-born conductor Alexis Soriano Monte Monstavičius. On his initiative, the opera Everard II - King of Lithuania was staged at the National Museum - Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in 2013. The book presents the opera in Lithuanian, English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as the libretto, translated from Old Italian into Lithuanian by the Italian Gaetano Martinelli, and facsimiles of the original libretto.

Habilitated doctor Adolfas Tautavičius (1925-2006) is one of the most prominent Lithuanian archaeological specialists. Since 1947 he has been involved in the research of many Lithuanian sites, from 1962 to 1987 he was the head of the Archaeology Department of the Institute of History, and was one of the first Lithuanian archaeologists to study the castles of Vilnius, Trakai and Klaipėda. From 1988 to 2002, A. Tautavičius explored the territory of the Palace of the Grand Dukes, and was the head of the Archaeological Department of the Castles Research Centre "Lithuanian Castles".

The author of the diary describes the years of his and his colleagues' scientific activity - important stages of Lithuanian archaeological science in the 20th century. The notes are regarded as a history of Lithuanian archaeology in the second half of the 20th century, written by one of the most active scientists.

his is the catalogue of the international exhibition "Impression of Eternity. Christian Stories from Italian Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces in 19th century engravings". It comprehensively documents all the prints presented in Vilnius, where this collection of prints was formed. The catalogue presents 63 engravings created in the 19th century, based on paintings of religious themes by prominent Italian artists of the 15th and 18th centuries. The subjects of the works are varied and include the Scriptural narratives of the birth of Jesus Christ and the cycle of the Passion, as well as images of saints, episodes from their lives and miracles performed. The catalogue features works by famous Italian Renaissance and Mannerist artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Titian Vecellio, Paolo Veronese, Giovanni Bellini, Andrea del Sarto, Domenico Puligo and others.

Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Historical features
