Description of the translation:
Žalgirio mūšis
The Great War of 1409-1411 and its culmination, the Battle of Žalgiris, was fought between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Teutonic Knights over the latter's colonial expansion to the East and their ambition to conquer Samogitia.
The victory of the Allies on the Žalgiris Field, near the Crusader capital Marienburg, led to the recognition of Samogitia as Lithuania's territory. The Battle of Žalgiris was a catastrophe for the Order, marking the end of its expansion and the beginning of its downfall. The battle changed the balance of power in Central and Eastern Europe. The Pope of Rome and the Holy Roman Emperor, as the universal powers of Europe, envisaged the further expansion of Catholic Europe to the East through the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
