The monograph focuses on the life and work of Ioannes Breutelt, the most famous foundryman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, who worked in Vilnius for two decades, casting heavy guns (cannons) and special musical instruments (bells). The publication provides an overview of his works, either extant or recorded in written sources. It is the first study of its kind and scope to focus on foundry.
A particularly valuable part of the book is the publication of fragments of archival documents and facsimiles of the original documents, translated from Latin and Polish, which are relevant to the content of the monograph. The summary is published in English, German and Polish.
The project is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
