In this monograph presents the history of the tapestry collection of the Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland Sigismund Augustus, one of broad European significance, whose existence spans from the acquisition of the first exhibits into our days. The political status and representational role of the collection in the most important historical events in Lithuania and Poland are analysed,revealing the close association of Sigismund Augustus' collection of tapestries to the Vilnius residence and to significant dates in the life of the ruler.
