This book about the history, architecture, and plans to research and restore the Sapieha Palace and park ensemble, which was built at the end of the 17th century in the Antakalnis district just outside Vilnius, is based on written sources and physical evidence.
Authentic 18th-19th century palace inventories are published in this book with Lithuanian translations of the Polish and Russian texts. Important facts and details revealed in these inventories are analyzed and compared with the extant architectural elements. The most important focus of the book is on the palace architecture – space planning, decorations and room functions – but there is also an analysis of the public and intellectual significance of the palace in the context of Lithuanian baroque culture.
The book is in Lithuanian with Polish and English summaries.
