Joining the global initiative “Bach in the Subways” to celebrate the 338th birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach, the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania invites you to a surprise performance of Baroque music and contemporary dance in the visitor lobby.

Performers
KAROLINA PARMAS (baroque vocals)
JANA ZARIŅA (harpsichord; Latvia)
ANA NOVICKAJA (dance)

The performance “PLAY, SING, DANCE pop-up” is a kind of reflection of Baroque music in modern dance, in which vocal-chamber music of the Baroque era and improvisations of modern dance are intertwined. It is a creative synthesis of two branches of art. This project will bring together Jana Zariņa (harpsichord; Latvia), Karolina Parmas (soprano; Lithuania) and Ana Novickaja (contemporary dance; Lithuania). The artists are united by the desire to search for new forms of artistic expression and effective means that would allow them to present professional art to the public in an interesting way. Contemporary dance performers reflect the pulse, rhythm and subtleties of harmony dictated by early music. With this performance, the performers aim to show that professionalism liberates a person. Many hours of consistent work pay off - a person who has developed the technical skills and elements of his field can freely improvise, create new ideas and products. Improvisation is the pursuit of Baroque music performance - true creative freedom and the core of mastery. It is an opportunity to see, analyse and evaluate this unexpected interaction of two cultural fields distant from each other in time. The performance will feature music by middle and late Baroque composers, accompanied by contemporary dance inspired by it.

The event is free of charge.
