Marking Statehood Day, the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, together with its partners, invites everyone to commemorate this day meaningfully and has prepared a festive programme for visitors. In addition to already traditional educational workshops and guided tours, visitors will be able to enjoy the modern technology-based “Virtual Journey Through Time” and “Virtual Reconstruction of Gediminas’ Tower.” Actor Rimantas Bagdzevičius will read poems by Motiejus Kazimieras Sarbievijus and other poets of the Baroque era of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, a concert will take place, and at 21:00 we will all sing the Lithuania's Anthem together in the Grand Courtyard of the Palace.
“Greeting everyone on Statehood Day and rejoicing that the Palace of the Grand Dukes Museum has, over sixteen years of active work, become an inseparable symbol of Lithuanian statehood, we invite visitors to join us in celebrating the Day of the State, the coronation of King Mindaugas of Lithuania, and the National Hymn,” says the Museum’s Director General Dr. Vydas Dolinskas. “On July 6, we are offering a programme dedicated to the Year of Baroque Literature, a Baroque music concert will take place in the afternoon, and in the evening we will offer some unusual guided tours.”
On July 6, the Palace of the Grand Dukes Museum will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 17:00). On this day, the ticket will cost 4 euros. Children under 7 and persons with disabilities will be admitted free of charge. All educational workshops, tours, and concerts will also be free of charge – a gift from the museum to visitors in celebration of Statehood Day.
Those who wish to learn more about the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania will have the opportunity to take part in the tour “Signs of Historical Statehood in the Palace” through the museum’s spaces. Free guided tours will take place at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 (in Ukrainian), 14:00, 15:00, and 16:00. However, registration is required. The duration of the tour is 1 hour, entry is with a museum ticket (the festive ticket price is 4 EUR).
More free events will take place in the museum on this day. From 11:00 to 16:00 in the visitors’ lobby, an open creative studio will be operating, where one can make a Statehood Day souvenir – a small flag with the Vytis. The workshop is open to all interested and those who wish to have a unique miniature historical flag!
July 6 is an important celebration for the Palace of the Grand Dukes Museum, which continues and nurtures historical traditions. Museum professionals invite visitors to see the international exhibition “Pidhirtsi Palace. History and Art Collections,” the international exhibition “Simonas Čechavičius. A Baroque Master in Pidhirtsi,” as well as view the restored tapestry “The Rape of the Sabine Women,” and the exhibition of two books by M. K. Sarbievijus dedicated to the Year of Baroque Literature.
In the evening, guides of the Palace of the Grand Dukes Museum will invite visitors to a free tour “The Rulers’ Residence: From the Dawn of the State to the Rebirth.” Those wishing to participate are invited to meet at the palace courtyards at 18:30 and 19:40 – two free tours will take place (Palace courtyards and surroundings). Registration is required. Duration – one hour.
Events in the Palace courtyard will begin at 17:00 – there will be a Baroque literature and music evening. Actor R. Bagdzevičius will read poems by M. K. Sarbievijus and other poets of the Baroque era of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Baroque music concert will feature soprano Karolina Parmas, violinist Marianna Puriņa (Latvia), and harpsichordist Benas Jonušas (Lithuania, Denmark). The free event is supported by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, and the project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
At 21:00 we will all conclude the festive Statehood Day celebration by singing the “National Hymn” together.
