An impressive Free Sunday and a farewell to the Sigismund Augustus tapestry exhibition

We thank all the visitors who came on the last Sunday of July to the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania as part of our regular Free Sundays campaign. The international exhibition The Tapestries of Sigismund Augustus in Vilnius alone attracted 6,500 thousand people on that day.  
For those who had to wait in the queue during the summer rain, we thank you for your patience.
 
The exhibition that drew record-breaking attendance figures The Tapestries of Sigismund Augustus in Vilnius has come to an end. The collection of historic textiles brought in from Krakow’s Wawel Royal Castle, viewed as one of the world’s most unique collections from the 16th century, was seen by more than 61 thousand people at the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania! Our museum guides hosted 256 excursions. Furthermore, it was one of the favourite accredited guide exhibitions ever shown at the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, with 142 excursions being organised!
We thank all locals and guests to the city of Vilnius, and await your next visits to our regularly updated expositions of reconstructed historical interiors, exhibitions, appealing educational activities and cultural events.

The Search for Japanese Historical Tapestries Leads to Lithuania

A community dedicated to preserving Japan's historical treasures contacted the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Specialists from the Koiyama Preservation Society searched archives, museum collections, and private holdings around the world for historically significant tapestries important to Japan, and they found some in Lithuania, at the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
