For the fifth year, the Marco Scacchi International Festival, which will delight early music lovers, will be opened at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania by the ensemble “Canto Fiorito” concert “From Rome to Vilnius”. The programme prepared by the artistic director of the ensemble, Rodrigo Calveyra, will invite listeners to take a fresh look at the music of the Vasa Palace of the Polish kings and Grand Dukes of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and restore the musical ties that linked Rome and Vilnius. Most of the Italian composers who worked as kapellmeisters in the Vasa Palace were not only famous representatives of the Roman School of Polyphony, who held the highest positions in Rome and the Vatican, but also students of the founder of this school, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. We would like Lithuanian listeners to hear the incredibly high level of music created and performed in the Vasa Palace at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. Composers who held such prestigious positions in Rome exchanged them for the work of kapellmeister in the palaces of Warsaw and Vilnius, so the Vasa Palace can be considered a truly important European music centre of that time.

The programme includes works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Francesco Rognoni, Cipriano de Rore, Annibale Stabile, Luca Marenzio, Tarquinio Merula, Asprilio Pacelli, Giovanni Francesco Anerio, Orlando di Lasso, Giovanni Battista Cocciola and Marco Scacchi.
