This year, the festival has the special opportunity to mark 400 years since the release of the instrumental music collection Banchetto musicale by Johann Hermann Schein (1586–1630). This concert is dedicated to presenting the work of this eminent German composer and his contemporaries.

The sacred and secular worlds were very closely entwined in Early Baroque culture, and these Baroque musical contrasts are reflected in this program. Schein’s work, the dances of Michael Praetorius from his treatise Terpsichore (1612) and Samuel Scheidt’s collection Tabulatura nova unveil the cosmopolitan nature of Early Baroque music, where Italian monophony and French and English melodies are used to great effect in the Lutheran context. Spanish director Adrián Schvarzstein, soloists Rūta Vosyliūtė and Nerijus Masevičius, joined by an international team of performers, create unexpected tension in the drama that unfolds throughout the concert, resulting in a battle where all of us are ultimately winners, the triumph crowned by a musical feast.
