Late 14th century – early 15th century
Limestone; tin and lead alloy
From the late 13th to the 15th century, goldsmiths’ (jewelers’) workshops also operated in the residence of the Grand Dukes. Here, craftsmen produced objects from precious and non-ferrous metals.
Band rings were cast in workshops located in the territory of the Bishops’ Palace (today the Presidential Palace). Such rings were commonly worn in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the medieval period onward. Rings with a widened front were cast in workshops situated in the territory of the Vilnius Lower Castle (late 14th–early 15th century). Rings cast in these moulds were also found there.
The casting moulds and rings can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania Museum.
