Restorer Bernadeta Rudytė awarded prize by Ministry of Culture

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania has honored individuals who have distinguished themselves in the fields of culture and art. Bernadeta Rudytė, a restorer at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, was awarded a prize for her work in restoring museum artifacts.

B. Rudytė, a restorer at the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, was awarded for her outstanding achievements in the conservation of wooden artefacts, her significant achievements in restoring an 18th-century tapestry, and her active work in researching the museum's collections.

Bernadeta is actively involved in the research and restoration of archaeological finds, paying particular attention to the research, conservation, and restoration of archaeological wood found in the territory of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in the Lower Castle of Vilnius.

This summer, B. Rudytė presented the exhibition "Between the Threads of Time. The Sabines' Abduction Tapestry and the History of Its Restoration," which gave visitors to the Museum the opportunity to learn about the history of the tapestry, the stages of its restoration, and the intricacies of the restorer's profession.

Bernadeta Rudytė not only researches, conserves, and restores movable cultural heritage, but also actively publicizes the results of this work to the public – she prepares scientific reports for restorers' conferences, initiates and leads excursions, and participates in Museum Night and other event cycles. The restorer has prepared and published descriptions of restored museum artifacts in the virtual "Exhibit of the Week" exhibition, prepares and reads reports at seminars for accredited guides to improve their qualifications, and willingly shares her experience with colleagues and the public.

We are also delighted that a new Museum Council has been elected, chaired by Dr. Vydas Dolinskas, Director General of the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.

During their visit to Lithuania, the Swedish royal couple visited the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. On Monday, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden met with Lithuania’s first couple at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. A reciprocal reception for the Swedish royal family was held there.

The guests were greeted by Dr. Vydas Dolinskas, Director General of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Queen Silvia of Sweden was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Dolinskas addressed her in her native German. Dr. Povilas Dikavičius, Chief Guide of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, invited the royal couple to take a tour of the palace. The distinguished guests listened with great interest to Dr. Dikavičius’s narration, asked questions, and took their time before heading to the reception hall, where guests were already awaiting King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

This is the third time the Swedish royal couple has visited the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
