On April 5th of this year, the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania invited visitors to take part in the Historical Dance Day program.
The myths surrounding Lutheran dance were explored in a lecture titled “Agrippa, Lutheranism – Myths About Dance” by Prof. Dr. Helmutas Šabasevičius and historical dance researcher Jūratė Širvytė. Renaissance costume specialist Jurgita Jankutė-Mirinavičienė introduced the audience to the nuances of Renaissance attire in her lecture “Reflections of Renaissance Ideas in Noble Attire.” In the Grand Renaissance Hall, visitors enjoyed a performance of music, dance, and literature titled “St. Genesius Troupe Presents Terpsichore.” Finally, the program concluded with a unifying historical dance workshop featuring “Branle de Poictou,” led by Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre lecturer Jūratė Širvytė and historical dance performer Edmundas Žička.
