It is no coincidence that a state dinner in honour of Poland's First Couple is being held at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, when the honoured guests are in Vilnius on an official visit. President Gitanas Nausėda and President Andrzej Duda are the patrons of the exhibition of the legendary tapestries of Sigismund Augustus in Vilnius.
The Presidents toured the exhibition and greeted the guests of the evening, surrounded by the armorial tapestries of the two countries, as they did centuries ago. The tapestries of Sigismund Augustus on display in Vilnius are considered among the most valuable artistic fabrics in the world. The collection of the Sigismund Augustus is often described as a diamond in the crown of European art collections, on a par with the collections of popes, emperors and Spanish kings.
