Asprilio Pacelli was born in 1570 in Vasciano, Italy. He was a boy chorister at the legendary Capella Giulia under Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. After being Kapellmeister at the Collegio Germanico and even at St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, he was appointed to replace Luca Marenzio as the Kapellmeister of the Vasa’s court in 1603. He kept this position until his death in 1623, and in recognition of his excellent service, Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund Vasa ordered an epitaph monument for the composer in St John’s Archcathedral in Warsaw.

This concert program reveals the genius of Pacelli and compares it to the music of Palestrina and Adrian Willaert, representatives of the Roman and Venetian composition schools respectively, giving an ideal context for deciphering all the complexity and depth of Pacelli’s work.
