Lior Leibovici, Jacob Lawrence (tenors)
Elam Rotem (bass, ensemble leader)
Orí Harmelin (chitarrone)

The program presents the evolution of one of the most popular 16th-century court music genres – the madrigal – spanning a period from the Renaissance to the early Baroque. This is a genre reflecting the bold and experimental ideas of composers from this era. Madrigal texts feature a wealth of hidden meanings that were otherwise not tolerated in sacred works such as motets or masses. Works by composers who served in the courts of famous Italian magnates, such as the d’Este and Gonzago families (Luzzascho Luzzaschi, Cipriano de Rore, Carlo Gesualdo, Scipione Lacorcia, Claudio Monteverdi), will introduce audiences to the musical traditions that reached the court of the Lithuanian grand dukes primarily through the efforts of Bona Sforza, the mother of the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund Augustus.

The Profeti della Quinta ensemble that is currently based in Basel (Switzerland) has a repertoire dedicated to 16th–17th-century music. Two of the collective's members, namely its counter tenors, will reveal the beauty and exceptionality of this voice's timbre during the concert. The ensemble's concerts are particularly lively and expressive, while also demonstrating the authentic, historically-based features of this kind of performance. The collective has appeared numerous times throughout Europe, North America, China, Japan and other countries around the world.
