Joining the global initiative “Bach in the Subways”, the special project “Basso Ostinato in the Light of Electronic Music” will be presented by Monta Martinsone (Latvia, Lithuania; soprano), Gertruda Jerjomenko (Latvia; harpsichord) and Mantautas Krukauskas (Lithuania; live electronics). In this concert, the three musicians will combine the sounds of early music with modern music technology - live electronic music - into a single ensemble. The programme is based on monodies for voice and basso continuo by 17th-century Italian composers. The early Baroque monody, which emerged as a contrast to Renaissance polyphony, is characterized by a virtuoso and richly ornamented solo melody, which is supported by one or more basso continuo instruments in a simple homophonic texture.
The programme includes works by Claudio Monteverdi, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Tarquinio Merula, Johann Sebastian Bach and other composers.
