The Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius conserves a very important source of the music history of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy – a manuscript entitled ‘Liber Tablature’, the collection of scores written in tablature notation. This manuscript was created in the beginning of the XVII century in the Braunsberg Jesuit College, which belonged to the Lithuanian Jesuit Province and had close relationship with Vilnius Jesuit College (currently Vilnius University). According to the musicologist prof. Jūratė Trilupaitienė, this tablature is a very important and prominent memorial of musical culture, revealing a broad musical panorama of the XVII century East Prussia, Poland and Lithuania as well as musical relations between these countries. Because of its place of origin this manuscript is also know as Braunsberg tablature, and as Oliwa or Königsberg Tablature, where it was stored later. The collection contains about 300 pieces, from which only a few were presented to the Lithuanian public by now.
The concert of the early music ensemble Canto Fiorito presents a collection of the selected pieces from the ‘Liber Tablature’, transcribed to modern notation by its artistic leader Rodrigo Calveyra, who is a famous cornetto and recorder player as well as a doctorate student of musicology in the University of Sorbonne. Under the direction of Calveyra the pieces from ‘Liber Tablature’ will be also performed by the virtuoso organist Davide Pozzi, the luth player Thomas Dunford, who performs not only with most famous early music ensembles, but also jazz stars like Bobby McFerrin, and one of the most active Lithuanian early music singers mezzo-soprano Renata Dubinskaitė.
