The Spanish ensemble „La Ritirata“ sought inspiration for their program from the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, which along with Shakespeare is being commemorated this year. His timeless literary masterpiece Don Quixote is surely known to all. The lone knight has not just become the idealist’s archetype, but has also inspired many of Cervantes’ contemporaries and later artists to portray the adventures of the Man from La Mancha. Baroque composers are no exception: this concert’s program features numerous episodes from the hidalgo’s life. Alongside the instrumental music of Telemann and de Lalande, audiences will also be able to enjoy dances from little-known operas recorded for the collective’s last CD: Antonio Caldara: The Cervantes Operas.
The ensemble formed by cellist Josetxu Obregón is named after the finale of Boccerini’s Quintet that was created in Spain. As such, its repertoire features more than just Baroque music from all over Europe, but also the opuses of classical composers.
