Known as „The English Malady“, the concept of Melancholia always reigned over the minds of Northern European Renaissance artists and intellectuals. While already identified in those times as a more-or-less treatable disease, Melancholia was back then – as much as today – the equivalent of a sensibility out of the ordinary, with the ability and desire to dwell in a gloomy state of mind over all other world-weariness. The love sickness, defeat, solitude and hopelessness of the Shakespeare sonnets are completed by the music of his contemporaries, gently passing through the different shades of post-Elizabethan Melancholia.

The international ensemble Morgaine is devoting themselves to the Late Renaissance and Early Baroque repertoire. Even though there is only one Lithuanian national in this ensemble of experienced early music performers, Morgaine proudly represents Lithuania in their activities abroad.
