The Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea was founded in Malbork Castle, Poland in 1991. The idea was to provide a forum where people working with their nations` history and cultural heritage could meet, create networks and exchange knowledge and ideas. Once a year the Association organizes General Assembly in one its member castles or museums during which an International Conference takes place, in which museum professionals discusses actual topics.
This year the General Assembly is organized in the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania as the opening of the Museum and great evaluation of the project in Europe drew the Association`s attention. This has determinated the theme of the international conference – the museum professionals will share experience and discuss about activities, challenges and victories of residential museums.
The Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea has over 40 members in nine countries, including such museums as Rosenborg Castle (Denmark), Narva Castle (Estonia), Rundāle Palace (Latvia), the Pomeranian Dukes` Castle (Poland), the Trakai Island and Peninsular Castle (Lithuania), Peter and Paul Fortress (Russia) etc. National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania joined the Association in 2010.
