Tesori Lombardi – early 17th-century Northern Italy, emotional, dramatic musical fantasy. Here, sacro e profano meet in music – from sensual prayer in motets to sacred passion in madrigals.
The virtuoso works of Biagio Marini and, already well known in Lithuania, Tarquinio Merula are combined with the unique style of Ignazio Donati's motets and Francesco Rognoni's paraphrase of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's famous motet Pulchra es, creating a spiritual and pulsating liturgical soundscape of Lombardy.
The second part of the concert features the soulful madrigals of Sigismondo d'India and Claudio Monteverdi, captivating with their extraordinary directness and emotional richness. Chromatic intonations, toccatas, and improvisations lead the listener through contrasting but complementary musical spaces. The cornet becomes a kind of narrator in this program—its flexible sound, close to the human voice, connects the instrumental and vocal worlds, conveying both liturgical grandeur and the emotional intensity of madrigals. It is a journey through the world of the Baroque person, where spirituality and everyday experiences merge into a unified musical experience.
