There are still plenty of blank pages in the music history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Some of the composers’ names are better known, others are mentioned only in passing. The history of 18th and 19th-century Polish and Lithuanian music, unfortunately, is no exception. Little is known about virtuoso musicians of that period, although they were significant and notable figures in the European music world at the time.

One of such forgotten musicians - Feliksas Janevičius, born in 1762 in Vilnius. His life came to an end in 1848 in Edinburgh (Scotland). A virtuoso violinist, conductor, composer, music teacher and organizer of musical life started playing violin at a very young age. During 1777-1784 he played in the Royal Chapel in Warsaw, performed at concerts, participated in performing operas and ballets. There are many legends passed down from generation to generation about his life. It is believed that in 1785 he received a royal scholarship and went to Nancy (France), then stayed in Vienna (Austria), where he met Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Joseph Haydn. At the beginning of 1792, F. Janevičius settled in England and since then his life has been documented more. During his life, he created more than 30 compositions, performed in England, France, Italy, Scotland, and became a recognized authority in the world of music of that period.
