There is an account of the impact of the Union of Lublin on the treasury, the expansion of taxable objects, the financing of the Livonian War, Stephan Bathory’s military campaign against Muscovy, Sigismund Vasa’s dynastic policy arguments with Sweden, the Commonwealth’s war against Muscovy and the re-taking of Smolensk, and the adjustment of the tax system to meet increasing needs.
