The 5th Workshop of Historical Wood Utilization, 2nd to 6th of September 2017, Vilnius, Lithuania


Historical Wood Utilization is a regular international meeting of scientist and practitioners interested in different aspects of wood use throughout the times. Main topic of HWU2017 will be “Wood Working”. The workshop will be organized like the last ones: interdisciplinary, fostering discussions, a combination of oral presentations, practical demonstrations and excursions and will be limited to 35 participants.

The workshop sessions will be held in the Auditorium of the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (Nacionalinis muziejus Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės valdovų rūmai), entrance from the Visitors centre (Katedros sq.4, Vilnius, http://www.valdovurumai.lt/en/visitor-information)

Visiting the Palace museum - archaeological exhibition with an   accent on wooden constructions and artefacts
Monday, 4 September:
Whole day excursion to the Open Air Museum of Lithuania in Rumšiškės (http://www.llbm.lt/en/about-us) with a lecture and demonstration of old (ethnographic) tools, wooden houses, and technologies by the architect and wooden heritage expert Dr. Rasa Bertašiūtė
Tuesday, 5 September:
Visiting the UNESCO heritage site - Kernavė State Cultural Reserve and museum (http://www.kernave.org/en/archaeological-site/information-visitors/how-to-find ) with a demonstration of ancient birch bark decoration technique
Wednesday, 6 September:
Departure (possibility to join a group going to Tartu, Eurodendro2017).

Participants are invited to send the abstracts of their presentations before 30 June. Normal length of an abstract is preferred. Please submit your abstract using this template. The text part should not exceed 1500 characters with spaces. As an exception extended abstracts will also be accepted. No more than two illustrations and up to four references may be included in an extended abstract. Abstracts will not be edited. All responsibility for English is upon the author. For 2-6 September we have pre-booked rooms in two hotels next to the venue place:

Hotel "Senatoriai", 10 rooms with double beds. Prices: 44 €/night if a room is used by single person, 54 €/night for a room for two persons. Participants should book the rooms themselves by e-mail: info@senatoriai.lt using the code "VR HWU 2017" to get this discount price.

Breakfast is included. The payment by guests has to be done on the day of arrival. The hotels asked to confirm the pre-booking until the end of May, since the beginning of September is a high touristic season.

Participants may also select other hotels around the Vilnius city center.


The registration fee is reduced to €70. It includes: coffee breaks, lunches during 3-5 of September, and the excursion fees.
